Injections for fine lines & wrinkles
How do the injections work?
Botulinum toxin injections can soften the lines of the forehead, the frown lines and the crow's feet around the eyes by blocking the release of the chemical substance responsible for muscle contraction. Wrinkle relaxing treatment works only on the specific muscles injected leaving surrounding muscles to function as usual, so that your face is not expressionless.
How long does it last?
The effect is completely reversible and generally lasts for 2 to 6 months. The procedure is safe and most side effects minor, temporary and resolve with time. For the first year, treatments every four months are recommended to ‘re-educate’ the facial muscles. Thereafter treatments may be less frequent until longer maintenance treatments of up to a year may be all that is required. This varies from patient to patient.
What happens in the treatment?
The treatment takes around 20 minutes. The doctor will ask you to use certain muscles in the face to observe how they work. Areas to be treated are marked and then injected using a very fine short needle. This may cause slight but brief discomfort. After the injections the area may have some slight redness and swelling which resolves after one to two hours. The protocol of injection (doses, number of injections) will be decided based on the expectations of the patient and the clinical examination by the GP.
Chemical Peels
What happens in the treatment?
Chemical peels are increasingly done over a course of treatments rather than a single treatment. This has the advantage of achieving the same skin improvement but with less recovery time (‘down time’) compared to deeper single treatment peels. Traditionally, a single peel is used on the skin for patients. However, as patients may often have combination skin types, an increasingly popular approach is to use several peel types simultaneously. These treatments are tailored, prescriptive concepts, medically supervised by the doctor at PURE.
Injections for excess sweating
How do the injections work?
Small doses of a toxin known to block the actions of the nerves that supply the eccrine glands are injected just below the skin in the underarm. This prevents the glands from producing sweat. This blocks the nerve endings but over about 6-12 weeks new nerve endings grow to replace them. Clinical studies have shown that this treatment reduces the amount of sweating by 75-80% and a course usually lasts on average 6-7 months.
Is it safe?
Yes. Only injections which are licensed in the UK are used. They are administered by a qualified doctor only after initial consultation and diagnosis.
Where does the sweat go?
The rest of the body compensates and ensures an even distribution.
Is it painful?
Minimal discomfort can be experienced. Because the skin of the armpit is thin, injections there are barely felt. The needles used are extremely fine, and are not felt much, but the injection itself stings slightly.
How quickly does it work?
Different people have different response times to treatment. Some patients may notice the effect occurring in less than two weeks. The injections do not cure the condition; your symptoms will return gradually. Follow-up injections are required to maintain dryness. These repeat injections may be necessary at intervals varying from six to sixteen months.
